5 GLOBES = OUTSTANDING/SIMPLY THE BEST!

This ranking means a lot as Hi Fi World is heavily biased toward tube phono stages.

A fabulous piece of kit, "Offering classic valve sweetness in a solid-state package, there are few who do transistor phono stages better than Whest Audio," says David Price.
"...rarely have I heard my loudspeakers fill the breadth of my listening room so effortlessly."
"...it bounces up and down like a rubber ball, pushing the groove of the song along like it was born to."
"I loved the way the Whest was so smooth and creamy, yet so rhythmically animated."
"A brilliant all round design then, offering most of what anyone would ever need."

Neil Gader reviews the music hall maven in the September Absolute Sound...

maven    Full Review

"Dig a little deeper...and the Maven reveals that there‚s more going on here than mere tradition."

"Some moments were even revelatory. During Jane Monheit‚s cover of „Over the Rainbow‰ [Come Dream With Me, N-Coded] for example, I could hear more of her chest and body enter into the mix as the melody descended, the music literally resonating through her frame in a way that reminded me that this was an acoustic instrument not merely a recording."

"...it garners an easy recommendation˜truly a maven worthy of its name."

TNT-Audio compares the EAT ECC88 to Golden Dragon, Electro Harmonix, and Philips JAN...

ecc88    View Article

Maarten van Casteren of online magazine TNT-Audio recently compared the EAT ECC88 to Golden Dragon, Electro Harmonix, and Philips JAN.  The clear winner was the EAT ECC88.  He says of the ECC88:

"The sound is better than more affordable valves in my Astin Trew CD player, with less noise and more music."

"When comparing the EAT valve to both other valves it always showed a clearly lower noise floor, enabling fine detail and acoustical cues to be heard more easily, and a cleaner and sweeter presentation overall. The whole spectrum seems to be extended a bit, with tighter and more tuneful bass and more air and detail at the top end. There's also an improvement in dynamics and vitality and a more natural and less 'rushed' presentation. All of this without losing the nice warmth and clarity typical for valves."

"I have no problems at all recommending it."
